Rhine Cruise Itineraries Across Switzerland, France, and Germany
Start your Basel River Cruise
Basel is the start of the navigable Rhine and, being on the borders of France, Switzerland and Germany, it’s a cosmopolitan city for connoisseurs of culture, history and food. Its medieval old town centre is full of boutiques, bookshops and eateries.
Leaving Basel behind, Breisach, just over the border in Germany is the quintessential Black Forest town. The forest scenery is stunning and there’s plenty to do here, from cuckoo clock making to Black Forest Gateâu classes.
Strasbourg River Cruise
Strasbourg is home to the European Parliament these days, but its past is what fascinates. Wander the Old Town and you’ll find a maze of cobbled streets, canals and wonderful medieval architecture. This being the capital of Alsace, there is superb Alsace wine to be tasted, as well as delicious Alsatian cuisine.
German River Cruise Stops
Crossing the border once again into Germany, you’ll find the medieval towns of Speyer and Heidelberg in the heart of wine country. The former is one of Germany’s oldest cities, boasting an impressive Romanesque cathedral, while the latter has an imposing 13th century castle.
The Rhine Gorge is one of the highlights of a Rhine cruise and Rüdesheim is where it all begins. You’ll enter an enchanting world of fairy tale hilltop castles, breath-taking ravines and charming half-timbered medieval villages.
Koblenz, one of Germany’s oldest and prettiest cities, marks the point at which the Rhine and the Moselle Rivers meet. With forests and vineyards, a mountainous backdrop, ancient churches and palatial buildings, it’s well worth exploring.
Not many cities can boast a continuous 2,000 year history, but Cologne can. It’s the cultural hub of the region, rich in museums and with a well-regarded food scene too. Don’t miss the stunning twin-spired cathedral that dominates the skyline, or a stroll through the Old Town.
Rhine Cruise to Amsterdam
Amsterdam is where most cruises come to an end and what an incredibly cosmopolitan city to finish on – it won’t fail to captivate you with art, architecture and attractions, food, drink and more.
From ancient hill top castles and medieval masterpieces, to spectacular food and wine, the Rhine is one of the world’s best loved rivers, offering truly world class river cruises.
