Hot on the heels of the Henley-on-Thames barge weekend, comes news of a similarly excellent opportunity (next year, 2014) to look over some of the luxury barges that travel the incomparable canals and rivers of southern France – the Canal du Midi and the Canal du Garonne.

Capestang (Canal du Midi, nearest airports Carcassonne or Toulouse) will see some fifteen luxury hotel barges gathered together – quite a sight! – on Thursday April 3rd and Friday April 4th.

Amongst the superb luxury canal cruise boats attending will be Alegria, Alouette, Enchanté, Esperance, Roi Soleil and Saint Louis (photo, above).

There’ll be a great opportunity to examine some fine live-aboard barges at Henley-on-Thames (the world ‘home of rowing’) on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September. Piper Boats have invited fourteen satisfied customers to bring their craft along for inspection and to talk to interested visitors about their experience. Barges (and narrowboats) from 49 feet to 65 feet long will be there and, of course, so will people from Piper Dutch Barges.

Additionally, Roy May from the highly regarded Bisham Abbey Sailing School (our own alma mater!) will attend with his own barge ‘Le Coq’ which is used for RYA and inland waterways helmsman’s training.

Venue : Temple Island Meadows, Remenham Lane, Henley RG9 3DB
