Day 2 — Monday
Cruise to Fonserannes | Excursion to Pezenas | Lunch in Beziers
After breakfast you will be taken to the historic streets of Renaissance Pezenas with its arts, crafts and antique shops. After a typical bistro lunch in Beziers we cruise over the aquaduct and up the majestic flight of locks at Fonserannes. This evening’s mooring is just a stone’s throw away from the city of Beziers
Day 3 — Tuesday
Cruise to Capestang | Excursion to Fontfroide
The morning visit brings you to the Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide. After lunch at a quaint restaurant with a stunning view over the ‘pond of Montady’ we cruise along the windiest part of the canal to our mooring in the delightful town of Capestang. This small village has a charming central square where you can enjoy an aperitif and perhaps visit the large 12th century collegial church.
Day 4 — Wednesday
Cruise to Le Somail | Excursion to Narbonne with lunch
Our tour guide takes you to Narbonne, known for its arch bishop’s palace, glorious gothic cathedral, the Roman road, authentic shops and arcades and its delightful covered food market. Here, choose a selection of sea food or charcuterie to enjoy back on board.
We then cruise to another stunning mooring by the sleepy village of Le Somail. Take the opportunity to visit the world famous antique book shop and the many ateliers. In the evening we’ll walk to a restaurant in the village to wine and dine.
Day 5 — Thursday

Thursday’s visit brings you to the medieval Cathar village of Minerve, a remarkable stronghold perched on a rocky outcrop above the river Cesse. Learn about the Catholic seige and admire the inhabitants courage. Then we’ll visit the olive oil factory Oulibo for a very enlightening introduction to the mavellous benefits of olives and a change to taste and pruchase a range of products. You’ll then enjoy a lunch ashore, returning to the barge for an afternoon cruise to Roubia. A wine tasting before your dinner on board would be possible, just as you wish.
Day 6 — Friday
Cruise to Homps near Carcassonne | Explore the Cité | Lunch at local restaurant
A visit to the extraordinary medieval city of Carcassonne is a highlight of the week. Take a guided tour around Europe’s largest medieval fortified town, walk the ramparts and soak up the historical significance of this UNESCO protected treasure. “Hello Christina
We, and our friends, spent a wonderful week on the Barge Sersphina. Finn, Emily, Alan and Rex all combined to ensure that we were transported, fed, educated and entertained superbly. We could not praise them highly enough.”

“A life long dream fulfilled and expectations exceeded! The perfect match for this family from Vermont. Finn, Emily, Andras, Rex, Penny & Lula made this vacation one that this little family will be talking about forever. They made us feel so very welcome and seemed to know just what to do to make every moment as relaxing and pleasant as possible.
Our teenagers especially learned so much from this experience. History lessons came alive (with a comical twist when taught by our guide Rex! So much fun to hang out with!), food & wine was beautifully prepared and presented in a gourmet style. Emily, is so talented, a cuisine artist! who uses many ingredients from her garden & eggs from her chickens creating exquisite plates which we all took photos of at every meal. Andras’ knowledge of wine & cheese and the history of the region is impressive! As well as his skills working as co pilot. Finn navigated the canal so expertly on his beautifully restored boat and educated us on the canal’s history and how it works.
The crew of the Sarafina created a 1st class experience with a homestyle, family feel which has given us just the balance of rest and adventure that we needed.”
